Carving stone in Berlin
The portrait below was carved from World War II rubble gathered near the Brandenburg Gates. The stone was probably quarried hundreds of year ago. For me this stone embodies the efforts of artisans who have been passing knowledge down through generations for millennia. The chisels that were used to carve it were forged by me in a courtyard while listening to opera singers practice at the Berlin University of the Arts.
